John Krasinski is finally admitting to taking a notable item from The Office set on his last day of filming.

The actor-director, who played Jim, recently stopped by Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey’s rewatch podcast Office Ladies to reminisce on NBC’s Emmy-winning comedy series.

During their conversation, Krasinski recalled one of his final moments filming the show, when “evil genius” creator Greg Daniels took the cast to shoot a scene at Poor Richard’s dive bar, one of the characters’ favorite spots. After filming several takes, the Quiet Place star remembered walking out of the set for the last time and seeing the show’s crew all gathered together.

“I’m choking up just talking about it, but then when you come back in and see your TV dad and all of your family waiting there and clapping, and [Greg] said, ‘That’s the end of The Office,’ I think the color black came out of my mouth. It was just the scariest, most beautiful, horrific moment of my life,” Krasinski said.

However, shortly after the emotional moment on set, the IF writer-director revealed that he went and took the Dunder Mifflin company sign.

“I’ve always lied to Greg that I didn’t take it, but I did. I stole it,” Krasinski admitted.

Kinsey, who played Angela, said she witnessed the actor shoving the sign into the back of his car, noting that it was “one of her favorite memories” on their final day.

“I was like, don’t look over here!” Krasinski recalled. “It wasn’t quite dark enough, so it just looked like I was putting a body in a car.”

He added that Daniels later approached him at The Office wrap party to question him about the sign’s whereabouts, but Krasinski said he denied any involvement in its disappearance. “He goes, ‘Aw, that was the one thing I wanted,’” the actor said.

Kinsey said she “never told anyone” about that moment, but Krasinski quipped, “Well, now you did. You told everyone. And I was dressed like a cat burglar.”

Last week, Peacock announced a formal series order for the untitled series that is set in the same universe as The Office, which ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013. The new show is co-created by Daniels and Michael Koman.

Steve Carell, who played Michael Scott, recently told The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere of his new film IF that he plans to watch the new series, but won’t be “showing up.”

“It’s just a new thing and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that,” he explained. “But I’m excited about it, it sounds like a great conceit. I love the idea — I guess it’s set in a failing newspaper company, and I worked with Domhnall Gleeson, who is one of the leads; I did [2022 series] The Patient with him and he’s an excellent actor and a super nice guy so I think it’ll be great.”
